Hi,
I like the first shaded figure, almost everything about it..from anatomy to rendering, everything looks so very perfect to me…don’t know honestly what to crticise on,may be only in the uplifted left hand near the forearm ..looks slight bit odd..don’t know about the oblique black line along the forearm stretching from shadow to light zone.
Thank you so very much for sharing the link, was helpful.
Happy New year.
Again , a very nice potrait, amazed by the texture you created in the hair .
Very nice work Jan, keep posting more work of yours.
Thank you Birgith and Erikdennes for your kind comments.
Than you Leo ,for your constructive criticism, very helpful comments.
Yes, i was not happy with my hatching and mark making, but don’t know specifically how to improve it.
I will try the tips you suggested , also if you could have mentioned any specific book or course in NMA which specifically deals with this bit, anyway i would probably revisit Glenvilppu ‘s videos , although i find it challenging during my own work at times to distinguish between modelling tone hatches and the marks for shadow areas, he does create.I looked back in to the reference photo and realised that the shadow across the palm of right hand is from the raised little finger and the oblique light source is from the left of the photograph, but yes it has been misplaced in my work and looks odd.
I have read your feed backs on other posts as well, and found those comments valuable.Much appreciated.
Merry christmas.
November 28, 2020 at 10:03 am in reply to: Watercolour portraits – any feedback appreciated! #958643Hi ,
I liked most the 6th painting from the top.The lighted side of the face has been beautifully rendered , preserving quite a bit of the forms and anatomy, and also the lovely expression. Now, in the shadow side..unifying the shadow shapes in a more interesting silhouette with nice interplay of colours in that area…is something you might choose to work on further..i felt at places red and blue mixed well nicely with the desired softness,..but at some places blooming and bit more of hard edges around it…made that area too busy and a bit more distracting…those patches of red and blue on shadow side might be competing more to draw attention …from those lovely eyes…by the way …all this in regard to the 6th picture.Nice expressive work overall…keep it up.
Wow,this looks so cool, the forms, cast shadows came out very nicely, but did you want to keep outlines around individual muscle bellies of recti and serratus deliberately? instead of blending them into the shadows?
Hi Birgith and Tim,thanks for your inspiring words.
I used General wood charcoal pencil.
Great work, liked more the first one.
Thanks Birgith and Tim for your kind words.

I really enjoyed this composition, very unique and original indeed.
I like the atmosphere and the mood , although as a beginner myself i would also emphasize on getting my perspectives and forms correct. Hope to see more.
Thanks Tim .
