This is an ambitious challenge! I’m excited to see more. Keep it up, we’re rooting for you.
John, it’s like Steve Huston says, if you commit to 5 minutes per day, and some days you do 8 minutes, you feel great and you keep going. If you aim for an hour a day and you only hit 58 minutes, you feel lousy. Set small, realistic goals, and stay positive. These are lovely, thank you for sharing.
OMG Josseline, I feel your pain. These are not awful, you are thinking about the right things. It’s like Rey Bustos told me, it’s mileage. Just because you know what you are are trying to do, doesn’t mean you will be able to perform it upfront. With gesture drawing, it’s weird, but when I work with thinner media, like a sharp pencil, it’s always more difficult for me to “feel” the motion. When I use charcoal or pastel, I feel like I can hit it more. But that might just be a crutch. Thank you for sharing these!

Art is hard…
So I did a copy of a 1906 Katzenjammer Kids panel. I spent time doing the pencil, still trying to hurry to get this done for tonight, then got to the inking, and I used a nib that was too large =|. And since I started with the faces fo the characters, there wasn’t much I could do, but push forward. I tried to Command + Z, but no luck.
I did have a lot of fun. I hope by doing the entire process, pencil to paint, over and over again will help me identify all my weak points. Right now, it’s kind of all over. Here’s a picture of the progression:

I just want to get something close enough to allow me to play with the figures, without looking at reference. There are a lot of different ways of doing these mannequins, each has their own positives and negatives. I want to wrap my head around one that works for me.

April 12, 2020 at 10:10 pm in reply to: Lucero’s 100 Day Challenge: Draw, and Don’t Waste Time #465632I have a problem with going too fast when doing my studies as well. It looks so free and simple when you see the masters do it. I love seeing those pages fill up in your sketchbook! Keep ’em comin’.

Lovin’ it. It has a playful feel to it. It might be good to push that if that’s your intention. Make the shapes a little more exaggerated and graphic.
