Watch out for sharp/abrupt edges on your tones. It ruins the illusion of roundness
Thank you for saying so. Obviously instructors each have a different style and not every style will teach at NMA will be a good fit for everyone (referring to Estrella).
Try to pick the teachers on our site that make sense to you. The fundamentals don’t change even if the presentation and delivery does.

Welcome to the community, Bradley. Please share your progress and consider joining a study group!
As for distortion, when using our 3D viewer you can control the perspective distortion and even eliminate it.

September 16, 2020 at 12:14 pm in reply to: Deborah’s 100 Days of People and Perspective Drawing #764568Improvement but I still can’t see the down plane of the upper lid. If we’re below her looking up (the ear to brow relationship suggests that) I expect to see that. Even if we are more level to her we will probably see some of that down plane.
The issue is that the corners of the face are often obscured by the most projecting parts (the vertical center line).
You need to know exactly where the far side corner of the mouse brow eye etc are even if you can’t see them because the center of the nose or mouth is blocking.
You need to imagine the far side as you draw. So whenever you are working along the edge or contour it becomes more complex and more careful to get the overlaps and angles working.
You’re welcome. No course that I know of when it comes to the images. With the NMA image library we try to minimize those kinds of problems but all photography has issues of some kind. Drawing from life and learning the construction and proportions of subject matter (practicing perspective as well) will help you to see when things are off over time.
I’ll let Erik answer this but I will mention that 5 and 6 point perspective will be covered in our next perspective course with Craig Attebery. 👍🏼
Rajesh,
Welcome to the community. Don’t be discouraged. Drawing figures and heads is the hardest subject matter in art. Most artists struggle with it. I recommend you start with Steve Huston’s constructive head drawing course. It would also be a good idea to start a challenge or join a study group here on the forums.
Welcome to the community, Sue! I recommend you share you work, join a challenge, and perhaps a study group here on the forums. 🙏🏼
Great work here. In your latest drawing think of a box with 6 sides. You’ve drawn the face on construction lines that appear to be seen front-on (if tilted). But the amount of head we see on the right side is more than the left suggesting a 3/4 view. If we do indeed have a 3/4 view then as the front of the head becomes the side the lines will move away from us as a different angle than on the other side.
