Here is a photo reference of the view, if that helps too. Thanks

Hi Anton, great drawings. I really love the head and face on your figure drawing, the detail of the hair, the clear structure of the nose and face. It’s really well done. Keep it up 👍

Hi, I really like your still life, the colours and the dynamic brush strokes really make it vibrant. I can’t offer much of a critique as I’m just new to this, but I think it’s really interesting. Great work.

Sounds like you have a great spread of work, I’m a bit the same, I’ll do a landscape, then figure drawing, then still life. I think it helps to focus on different skills from different perspectives. I actually paint in acrylics 😬, I’d love to use oil paint, but with little kids and minimal space and time, it’s just not doable at the mo. Something to look forward to though!!

Id love to see your night scene when you are ready with it, I’m really interested in them, I think because I paint at night, it’s the lighting I look at most.
I usually draw when I don’t have much time, so if it’s a rough night with the kids, I’ll just sketch so I can pack it away easily. I’ll only paint when I can get a two hour block, otherwise it’s just too frustrating. But I find drawing really informs my paintings and I usually do a painting from a sketch I like.
I’m working on another bushy/gum tree landscape , which has been burnt by bushfire. The colours are pretty intense, so I’m kinda sitting and thinking on it a little.
Looking forward to seeing your next work. 😀

Thanks Josseline, I’m so motivated now!!! I feel like I can give myself permission to keep carving out time for painting. I hope you are going to post some more work, I’d love to see what else you are working on. Thanks for your support 😁😁

Thank you so so much for the critique. I really didn’t know what kind of response this painting would get, so to hear your feedback was just awesome. You really understood my intent, which made me think that, maybe, just maybe, what I am trying to express may actually be working!!! Your suggestions were very helpful and I feel brave enough to dive back into it now and move it along a bit more. As a beginner at this, the opportunity to have work critiqued is just so amazing and helpful. Thanks again.

hi, really lovely drawing. I’m just a beginner, so I can’t offer much except to say you’ve done a great job capturing the youth of your sitter. I always seem to age my children when I draw them, so keeping the simple lines and softer shapes is great to see. Perhaps look again at the back of the neck and the receding chest and should line, they feel a bit flatter than the rest. Maybe try drawing around the form instead of the outline. Sorry that’s probably not much help, and regardless, it’s a great drawing. Keep it up.

I really love how you’ve created the hair and captured sense of personality in the eyes and mouth, really lovely.

It definitely has a sense that this is a moment in time, You have expressed that well. I really enjoy the feeling of this painting.

Wow, lovely work. In the Beach landscape I think you really nailed that headland and sky value and colour, that sit in great harmony. There is such convincing depth and many variations of cool and warm colours, you really read the scene well. In the Photo there is a slightly lighter strip of beach in the background, which you could add to push that beach background away a little more, or maybe darken the forground beach just a smidge to pull it forward. But such great work, keep it up, you are soooo past kindergarten!!!

You are spot on there, I do avoid the hands and feet often when I draw figures (also faces). Sitting down and focussing on them is a great suggestion. I think it’s true that when we find ourselves in a struggle with an element of drawing or painting, it’s a great opportunity to improve. It just takes a bit of determination to sit down and say, right, I suck at this, time to put some work in.

Thanks so much for your feedback, I think I’ll go face that challenge.

Thanks again Josseline, looking at it now, I can see how the flat the bottom is, more detail would definitely improve that area and the overall effect.
    Thanks so much.

I know what you mean about feeling like you are in kindy, I look at other people’s work and think how many years will it take to get that good!!!  It’s so reassuring to see how other people are progressing though, it really motivates me to keep at it.
    Feedback is amazingly helpful too.

Thanks so much for your feedback, that is very helpful, I’ll take another look at it. It’s so hard to know where things sit in the realm of really bad to ok, so I appreciate you taking the time to provide insights. Cheers😁

Thank you! Yes that’s extremely helpful, it did not occur to me, but it makes sense, especially how difficult it was to draw those little bits of body that stick out just a little bit. So awkward. Great tip, I’ll keep my eyes on it. Cheers Rachel
