Thanks Kay and David. Appreciate your kind words.
David, the reference for the figure you mentioned on my Day 24 post is from the NMA figure reference. The model is Lillias.
Thanks Composite.
Yes that’s a quick study of a Jim Lee drawing of Wonder Woman.
Hi Composite. Great challenge! I’m glad you posted your early work you felt so badly about, because we can now see how much progress you’ve made! Your drawings have improved significantly, especially the sense of movement and gesture. Hang in there.
I love gesture. If I can make a suggestion, I urge you to do studies of artists who excel at gesture. Two of my favorites are Heinrich Kley and Daumier. I urge you to do studies of just about everything you can find by them.Here’s a Kley;
And a Daumier;
Gesture doesn’t get much better than these guys.
Good luck!Here’s Day 23.
Decided to do some quick sketch studies of a couple of my favorite illustrators, (Jim Lee and John Buscema), in an effort to push through this challenge of trying to loosen up. May do more studies of artists that I admire for their loose, gestural qualities. Sharpie on 18″ x 24″ newsprint.
Whew! Been really struggling to do my daily drawing/painting and when I do I struggle to post them.
I’m slowly getting a bit of organization done after my move. I’m really hoping to get on track with this challenge. I’m trying to loosen up in my drawing. Here’s some sketches from three days ago. Still way too stiff. Just now getting it posted.
Thanks David,
I have that book, but I haven’t looked at it from an anatomical point of view, (probably because it doesn’t have “Anatomy” in the title!). After all these years I’m still too literal sometimes in what I use for instruction. I love how Steve teaches. I’m going to check it out this weekend from an anatomy perspective. Thanks for the suggestion!
Thanks David. What book by Steve Huston are you referring to? I have one book by him but am not aware of an anatomy book by him. If he’s written one I’d sure like to buy it.
Okay, here goes again. Here’s day 19.
Tried to post for a while with no luck. I eventually quit trying, then I got an email from NMA saying to give it another try, but I was in the process of moving and am just now able to try posting again. Hope this works.Part of my second challenge is doing some anatomy studies. I decided to go back and look at some of the people I was told to study by instructors many years ago. I don’t think I really focused on these books at the time. I’ll try to do better this time.
Here are some studies from Stephen Rogers Peck’s “Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist.”Still not able to upload images to the 100 day challenge site and no answer here or to the email I sent. Is this Challenge dead?
Day 19
Been trying to post for over three days. Hoping they fix the upload issue(s). Been hoping to get into the challenge.
