Copy of a sketch in Steve Huston’s book. I find copying sketches much easier than sketching from a photo or life. Guess that improves with practice. Quite happy with the overall look of this one, although her left forearm might be slightly too long…
Steve’s lines are really exquisite – each line means something and contributes and flows. Mine is a base copy!!

I only had a few minutes spare today so tried the 1 and 2-minute figure sketches – reallllly tough! Most of them came out like aliens apart from this one which is semi human :o) Tomorrow I should have a bit more time. I’m pressed for time as I’m preparing a new workshop and there is a lot to do on the ground.

I’ll try to up the light levels for the photos taken at night or leave to daylight. With the daily challenge I’m often drawing just before I hit the sack!
I’m not seeing an image?
Very nice :o) I like the smoothness of the brown pencil more than the ink work – I think it suits the human form better (to my eyes at least). It adds a softness to the curves. Lovely forms. Perhaps one day I might be able to sketch like this!
Are these poses from images on NMA or elsewhere or from life?
Best wishes,
David.Great! Lovely tones. Really looking forward to seeing more of your work. I have the same eraser as you! I’ve also got a small version of the same kind of thing (maybe by a different company).

Re-using my self portrait work of this morning, but it’s all part of my draw-something-each-day challenge!
This is worked up from a photo. I’ve got a lot to learn about natural shading of the face – my eyes keep coming out too dark for example. I guess this will come with practice. Also I’m reaching for a 6B to start off with when I should probably work from an HB or 2B. There is something of a likeness there but there’s still a long way to go before I get the feeling I’m looking at myself! I might develop this one further, but actually I’ve lost quite a lot of weight since that photo was taken so will probably choose another. With the head turned slightly this makes angles and facial features a bit more tricky than if it were a head on shot. The nose and the mouth are quite wrong looking and need to be fixed. I’ve learnt that portraiture is HARD!
