Very nice drawings Vaidehi. You’re making good use of values, like the creases in the white leotard. Nice!
April 15, 2021 at 12:40 pm in reply to: David’s 100-Day Challenge – Draw something, draw anything #1362955Thanks for all the great suggestions, Susan! Yes, this is mostly work from the lessons. Will have to get more original!
On the paper size I am extremely limited in size at the moment due to house moves and living in a tiny London flat with a ton of stuff! I have a couple of large pads including newsprint, but they are in storage right now. I’m looking forward to the final move in a month or so when I can decompress and set up a proper studio. Large fluid strokes are coming one day!
I haven’t given up by any means. I don’t post every day as I tend to batch up my work and photograph several days in a row. I’m on Day 92 now so only 9 days to go. Will post my progress after the weekend.
Best wishes,
David.Hi Vaidehi,
Well done for taking on the challenge. I recognise those drawings as I did that class too 🙂
Good luck with it all.
Best wishes,
David,Wow Susan, that last one is really great – love the subtle lines and expression in the gaze, you must be quite chuffed. The last dipped ink pen one too is really good – at first glance I would have said it’s Fialetti’s own 🙂
Cheers,
David.Hi Susan,
I like the comparisons with time and different methods – I’ll borrow that idea myself!
Maybe for the 1-minute sketches you could do a slow version of the same eye and compare.
keep on truckin’
Best wishes,
David.Hey Allan,
Great work. Especially love the female head with soft flowing curves. Good luck with your challenge.
Best wishes,
David.
Hi Turtlelearns,
To post a picture click on the picture icon on the toolbar – this is a row of tools above the text input area. The icon you want is the last one on the right – it’s like a mountain in a frame icon. When you click on it you can then upload a your photo.
Good luck,
David.
Great looking Truncated icosahedron!
Well done with your challenge, Joshua.
Best wishes,
David.Hi Susan,
Great work! Lovely flowing lines. I see what you mean about less lines, but this is getting really nice. The media photograph is very interesting, thank you for posting it. Firstly it shows that the drawings are around 8″ across so quite large (I thought they were smaller when there was no scale to compare to). Secondly, again very interesting, is that you have two pencils sharpened differently. In the beginners class they show you how to sharpen a pencil and try to get a fine point after exposing a lot of lead for the laying down. They don’t mention, I seem to recall, the idea of keeping two pencils sharpened differently – it’s probably a good timesaver – nice tip!
By the way, there is also a Discord server where people are posting their work. I’ve only just started using it TBH. If you find it quiet in these forums I think it’s because a lot of students are focused on Discord.
Best wishes, David.
April 6, 2021 at 12:10 pm in reply to: David’s 100-Day Challenge – Draw something, draw anything #1340292Thanks for the encouragement Susan. I’m pretty rotten at them too really – I cheated a bit with that one and got the vague outline with a lightbox and tracing over a photograph – it’s a total wimp’s way out! I had to do it a couple of times and even then I wasn’t happy with it. I will have another go again using some more solid drawing principles this time around. Maybe the Fialetti plates would help me!?
Thanks for your comments about moving house – yes it’s been very disruptive actually and we’ll be moving again in a month or two but then we should be settled and have space. I’ve got another 3 or 4 days’ progress to photograph which makes about 10 days left of the challenge for me – so hopefully that will be done by the time we move 🙂
Cheers,
David.Hi Susan,
Great progress, well done! I love the alternative medium ones. Can you please take a photo of your crayons? I’m always interested in the particular media people are using.
Cheers,
David.Thank you, Susan. I’m currently trying to finish the challenge myself. I’m sketching most days, but have had house moves to content with so it’s taken a long time. Another good eye today, well done.
Very nice!
