Hi Susan,
Nice to meet you too. Personally I think your results with the dip pen are better – the lines have a better quality. The Pilot pen looks modern and sketchier. I know dip pens can be tricky to work with though!
Best wishes,
David.Hi Susan,
Well done for taking on that challenge. I had a go with this after the Master Monday session and found it quite tough. There’s plenty in that book to challenge any artist I think!
Cheers,
David.

I’ve got a lot of those geometric exercises in my challenge too – great work! I like the portrait a lot. As a photographer I immediately want to lighten up the left eye as eyes are the key focus points for humans when we look at another face. The right eye has a lot of presence at stands out but the left eye’s detail is a bit lost in the shadow. I think it could still be in the shadow but still have presence, if that makes sense. It might be enough just to sharpen the pupil boundary up a little. Do you know what I mean?
Best wishes,
David.Hi Joshua, Great work here. I like the first portrait more than the second. The background on the second one has the same tone as the hair and so the figure tends to blend into the background. Best wishes,David.
You’re nailing it again, Chi, well done!
The face has an androgynus quality to it – I’m not sure what you wanted – like the hair is very feminine but the angular cheeks are masculine.

Loomis. I just got Loomis’s how to draw the figure book. Great book. Oh my! The poor guy front on doesn’t bear too much relation to the side guy. I need to redo this with a clearer head until it’s right. I need to study the neck/head composition more carefully – all my guys turn out like no-neck rugby players.
