Day 7: Tried soft pastel pencil today. Not my favorite. Not a good sketch day today. Well, there’s always tomorrow.

Very good forms and flow!  Have you done the figure courses on NMA?

Hi David, thank you! Yes I have done Steve Huston’s constructive figure drawing course. I am going through Glenn Vilppu’s next!

Day 8: Went through Glenn Vilppu’s lesson on gesture yesterday and somehow it resonated with me more. Feel like these are better gesture-wise. Also, thank you Paul for the suggestion on working larger, got larger papers yesterday and it definitely helps a lot!

Done with Pilot drawing pen. 10 mins each.

Very nice :o) I like the smoothness of the brown pencil more than the ink work – I think it suits the human form better (to my eyes at least).  It adds a softness to the curves.  Lovely forms.  Perhaps one day I might be able to sketch like this!

Are these poses from images on NMA or elsewhere or from life?

    Best wishes,
    David.

Yes, it’s nice to get deals on them. Otherwise it’s hard to uncap a couple and deliberately let them dry out!

Hi David. Thank you for your kind words.

The references are from the Daily Life Drawing session video here on NMA. You can find it in the Images category! I just give myself 5 mins more in the longer poses.

Day 10: I always find the male body more difficult to draw.

You really have a nice rhythm in your figure drawings!

I also find it more difficult to draw males, I personally think that its easier to achieve a good flow with female bodies

These are looking better, Chi. I especially like your 1 and 2 minutes gestures. Your sketches from today are good also. They’re feeling looser and you’re capturing the movement more.

The hair looks great, very carefree!  Nice poses and forms – looks natural and flowing.
