    Day 5

I’ve decided to discontinue the challenge. I’ve been working every day for a month prior to starting, and this challenge doesn’t seem to serve much purpose.

Congrats David! I like the notion of having a simple goal like a ‘5 minute sketch’. You can always do more if time permits.

    Hey Emmanuel,

Those are great. I’m looking forward to seeing the after paintings, too.

    Hi Nadia,

Best wishes in your anatomy course. It’s on my list for the near future. How is it going so far?

    Hi Jana,

Fantastic painting. The shimmer evokes something of the Star Trek transporter for me. But once I move past Star Trek, I’m feeling an out of body experience.

    Hi Victor,

I really dig that goal! I’m just trying to get to a place where my work is not embarrassing (lol). It appears it’s going to take a couple years.

    Hi Edgar,

It’s been three weeks — How are you liking New Masters Academy so far?

    Hey Jax,

I’m new to the art journey too, but since you asked for tips on how to get started I’ll mention a couple. NMA is working on learning tracks, it’s a work-in-progress, but here’s the link you can use as a guide in the meantime: TRACKS.

The other tip is to use proper 70lb drawing paper for your assignments that involve graphite or charcoal. (I’m working through the beginner course right now, and I’ve discovered that cheap sketch paper is not up to the task.) Sketch paper seems A-OK for ballpoint pen. Look forward to seeing your work!

My results are so bad it’s painful. If anyone has advice, I’d love to hear it. These are 3 10-second poses (2 of them were over before I made a mark) and 6 2-minute poses. My plan is to watch the demo again (4th time) and try again. I’m concerned that drawing figures poorly over and over and over again will actually be detrimental instead of beneficial.
