Welcome, Ian! Excellent start and hope you find lots of inspiration to keep you going. Also a musician and photographer by trade who recently (last couple years) got into art again. Looking forward to seeing more from you!

Thank you so much for the encouragement, Joshua! I spread this out during 5 days. First say was a simple shape line sketch which I took my time with. Then each day I broke the face up in parts. What I found with this was I just wasn’t motivated to do any of the parts I broke up for myself. This non-motivation really messed with my internal dialogue. Like ‘why am I even doing this’, and ‘I suck’! This was the first time I had to wrestle with this to this extreme over 5 days. After experiencing this I am really finding it hard to start back up again. Yeah so I’m in a slump. 🙁

Days 18-21 This was the toughest one yet! It made me doubt all my capabilities and put me in a bit of depression. However, I soldiered on and finished it. I might redo this down the road to try to overcome the mental hurdle it put me through. Looking forward to doing something a little more calming!

Day 17, went back to sight size. This is all I have time for for today.

Welcome, David! I, too, am in a similar situation…came back to art after a 25+ year hiatus. Last major art piece I worked on was freshman year of college back in ’92. Joined NMA after a new career path ignited the love for art again.

I like your value study and looking forward to seeing more! Enjoy the practice and challenge!

Days 15 and 16. It’s not perfect but happy because I really focused on relying on my gut rather than sight size. This one was by far the most challenging of all the ones so far! I’m exhausted, lol!!

Day 14 – couldn’t get a better photo from my phone, sorry! Also, I switched over to doing these on newspaper and it seems to warp easily.

Hi Dominika! Thank you so very much for taking the time and giving your wonderful assessment! I do see what you mean about her arm/shoulder. I think a bit more midtones closing in on the highlight would help it, maybe? Her eyelashes were fake and I did not like how ‘perfectly in place’ they appeared. However, I kept them as is. I do struggle with going off on my own (trusting my gut) and changing things in the image because I try so hard to copy the image exact. This is definitely one of the many areas I am working on. Thank you, again!! I truly appreciate all of the insight you gave! 🙂

Day 13 (part 1)…this is not done, it is just a rough sketch and rough tones. Working on finding a process that works for me. So this is done slightly different than how I did my others. I will work on cleaning up shapes and tones and blend for day 14.

Day 12 and feeling much better! Really took my time with the finish of this. Definitely was a true challenge! Bargue’s head casts are no joke and extremely intense, lol!

Nursed a migraine yesterday so I’m behind on my progress a bit. Hoping to get back at it today. Day 11:
