Thanks for the comments and critique. ttwarner, I was there and took the reference photo myself, it was a very calm, even somewhat “dreamy” moment as she was looking out the window, there was no tension of any kind there. But I guess sometimes that’s the beauty in art, one painting can mean one thing to a certain person and the complete opposite to another.
Thank you for your kind words Lewis!
Thank you so much Jan! always a pleasure to read your comments… And my wife does like the painting a lot 🙂

I felt something was off in there and you pointed it out exactly. Thanks for that!
This looks great! I love the atmosphere the soft/hard edges give the overall feeling.. some places are not subtle enough, like her right elbow, the lines are to distinct. beautiful work !
Thank you Chris,
I totally agree that the composition on the pumpkins piece could be and would have been much better the way you set it up.
Will work on that part better with the next piece!
Hi Iliya, Thank you so much. I’ve been taking your course here and following you and I must say it’s a great honor for me to have you comment and compliment my work.
I Will certainly take your comments with me and implement them going forward and post future work.
Thanks again for this wonderful chance!
Thank you for your comments. David, I do use the blurring intentionally, it helps to create a focal point in the painting. It also help to create the illusion of depth.
Thank you Petr
That’s a beautiful example with the can of olive oil and vegetables. Even the label of the olive oil looks great, that’s awsome!
I will try to use a stronger, more distinct light for my next one.
In the meantime, take a look at this other one I’ve uploaded here a few days ago:

Thanks for taking the time to comment!
beautiful! very nice tonal definition. I think the left side of the face (his right) is a bit off, the eye is a little to large and low and the side of the face is too much of a straight line where the neck and face meet. other than that, great work.
Thank you Joshua, it’s a great honour!
I’ve tried to see what you mean looking at the reference photo of the still life that I submitted, and I’ve noticed that I put the wrong one here, its at a slightly different angle.
So I am adding a photo of the still life from the right angle here. Does it make more sense? or do you still think the perspective is off?
Thank you Andre! I agree the foreground does need to “pop out” more than it does now.
