In this lesson, instructor Steve Huston will provide you an introduction to starting your journey as an artist. You will join Chris Legaspi and Heather Lenefski in exploring various tools and materials that artists use to draw. You will also learn different ways to set up your drawing studio.
This lesson belongs to the course The Beginner’s Guide to Drawing. It is a 12-week course designed to empower new students with a structured approach for learning how to draw. Join instructors Steve Huston, Chris Legaspi, Heather Lenefski, Bill Perkins, and Mark Westermoe as you learn the fundamentals of perspective, rendering, and composition. After completing this course, you will develop a solid foundation in drawing.
Throughout this course, you’ll have access to the NMA community for feedback and critiques to improve your work as you progress.

Thanks,
David

April 23, 2021 at 1:56 pm #1382883June 19, 2021 at 5:46 pm #1531216I’m in Australia so it’s pretty hard for me to get paper that is 18 x 24 inch. I’ve ordered something from Amazon but it has cost me a small fortune and it will take about a month to arrive. Do you think I could get away with using A3 size paper which is 11-3/4 x 16-1/2 and a more common size here? Or should I go for A2 size which is only slightly smaller than the 18×24 at 16-1/2 x 23-3/8 inches? Thoughts? Thanks!

December 7, 2021 at 2:18 pm #1997110This introduction and beginners introduction to basic tools and Material is a great way of bringing together the desire of the self as the student and bridges the gap between that desire and actualisation of artistic development. I’ve been working through the template guide for drawing starting at the beginning. It is very helpful that I am able to replay each step getting the maximum amount of information through each stage of my personal artistic journey. Part of that journey for me is learning to use mixed media. Gold leaf with Egg Tempera.

After a year or two of casually reading about and practicing drawing, painting, markers, or whatever, I want to systematically improve my knowledge and skills in order to turn my ideas into a reality on the canvas. I love illustrations and video game art. My main mediums are graphite and Acryllic. Looking forward to building a solid drawing foundation and gain some insight into what the next step should be for me. I love learning from and being inspired by other’s creations.
