Glad it helped. It makes it much easier to see some of the subtler shading you are doing. Looks good.

Was looking at the early stuff this week, and am pretty happy with my progress. Today was easier, and the likeness was quick to get.

Glad to see you are still enjoying it, and are recognizing the improvement.
One suggestion for the forum pictures – if you are shooting it with your phone you can do a quick edit to make it look more like you see. I took your latest one and just adjusted the exposure and saturation.
Unless you are drawing on toned paper, then totally ignore me. 🙂

Had to be careful in ‘caricature-izing’ this one. With the pursed mouth and eyes, jowels, and thinning hair it would be easy for this one to look like Trump. So I made sure to de-emphasize certain qualities – like keeping the hair very flat.

Tried the same approach as yesterday but I was really unhappy with the way it went after the drawing phase. Was a struggle to get something I was semi-happy with.

Used an overlay layer at the end to bring back some of the texture I lost from painting over the sketch.

Playing around with another caricature. Rendered it with a scribbling hatching method that felt easier on the iPad.

This one is more like an older drawing style I used to do. Was a surprisingly easy drawing.

Halfway done. A strangely anticlimactic feeling today.

Was watching a studio tour on Proko’s YouTube with Stephen Bauman yesterday, and was struck again at how beautifully subtle his drawings were. So I tried to stay more restrained and subtle with the values. I also tried treating it like a real drawing. I “toned” the drawing and collapsed it to a single layer with a lighter value underneath. I then made a brush that was sort of like a kneaded eraser and worked that, rather than just changing my brush color.

Going for the shadow/lit separation again, but this time I tried to keep all the details in the shadows and half tones, blowing out the highlights.

Procreate doesn’t have the tools I would want to be as geometric as I was hoping with this one, but I want to stick with it for the full 100 days.
