    Day 69:

A little bit more on the dog. I got worried about shadows on the face so I spent some time sculpting a dog head out of kneadable eraser and using that to check how it fell on the form.

    Day 68:

Practiced mixing colours and started working on the dog piece. I hope to finish it this week and get back to lessons and videos. It may be good practice, but my goal was to work on the foundations.

    Day 67:

I’ve been very unmotivated to draw lately, especially on vacation, due to the anxiety/distraction wrapped up with a new city and a new position. So today I went back to charcoal (the funnest medium IMO) and sketched an apple I had on hand. I tried to show a bit of the variation in colour but I don’t know how well it came across. Also, all the work I did on the pumpkin watercolour really helped me ‘see’ the angles and irregularities within the apple. Neat!

    Day 66:

Today I meant to start painting, but got caught up in fixing anatomy and blocking in the shadows. I’ll erase most of the shading before I put down paint, but I want to get the basics down to understand the lighting. I don’t have a good image showing this dog’s front leg so I need to pull other references and fix that, too.

    Day 65:

I noticed that I hadn’t posted one of my daily drawings from my vacation. I found this funny card while travelling and got it for a friend. Since the inside was blank I drew a sloth for her. She loves sloths!

    Day 64:

After a few more sketches, finally started blocking in and sketching on A4 watercolour paper. Lots of things to fix and finish up before adding paint.

    Day 63:

I don’t want my messages to be flagged as spam, so I’ll just post the work from the 26th and then do more catch-up posting later.

So I visited this great conservatory/botanic garden in Glasgow and it had some amazing statues. Lots of interesting poses to sketch. The strangest (funniest?) included a very anatomical man and a monkey, both with sad-worried faces. His legs were so skinny.

    Day 62:

From the 25th. I was asked to do a watercolour of someone’s dog, so I did a few sketches to start practicing. Here’s one page of it. I really want to do the animal anatomy course. I plan to do more of the Russian Academic and start some of the constructive head drawing first, though.

    Day 60:

Found a spot with free wifi so I’m uploading another day from last week. Hopefully I will have WIFI again by Monday to post the rest.

From the 22nd or 23rd… a watercolour of a leaf I found on a walk. I tried being very relaxed and playful with it to try and ‘loosen up’.

    Day 59:

I have very limited internet right now so I will post a catch-up of this week’s work when I get home next week. This was from the 21st, and it’s a quick sketch after going through more of the perspective course.

    Day 58:

I’m on holiday so I worked on this while riding a train. Need to deal with some details and background.

    Day 57:

Completed (or is it?) the Asaro planes head today. I darkened some of the shadows along the cranium and under the face after taking this photo.
