Thank you so much, Steve!  Your critique makes a lot of sense.  It was good to learn that I was headed in the right direction, just needed to push and pull a bit more. I always struggle with young women’s heads as I try to keep the “weight” of the skull, yet not lose the femininity.  I can see that by losing the structure on the distant side of the face it strengthens the nearer side.

I feel very encouraged and hope to someday visit your studios.

thanks Rachel, I have been limiting myself to three colors plus white lately.  It really improves my color harmony and forces me to stretch my mixing.

I see what you mean, especially the eyelid.  This is my first stab at using a portrait photo reference and placing it in a landscape.  I see now that the light on her chest made sense in the photo but outdoors the light would be falling over the neck and chest not hitting it straight on.  Thanks so much!
