World-renowned painter Steve Huston provides you with an introduction to the vast subject of color theory for painters. Steve will show you the critical process of mixing colors to achieve the desired tone and temperature of the colors you want. You will also learn mixing techniques for your palette and how to approach the color spectrum in your own work.

How do you decide from which color to work?  In this video Steve has started from the green/blue shadows and then from this appears to add this colour to all other colours.  Do you look for the largest amount of one color?  So for example if you were painting outdoors and there were a lot of trees. WOuld you use the say olive green or whatever color the trees are as a starting point from which you can mix the colour of the sky or the surrounding buildings?  Not sure exactly how you determine that?  Please give me your thoughts.

    Joanne,

Are you viewing this lesson stand-alone or as part of a course?

This course has the whole series in order. I recommend you watch this way unless you’re looking for a specific thing.
