In this lesson, instructor Moritz Moser will teach you how to refine drapery in marble. Learn how to move around your working station for a better view of the parts of the bust you are working on. Moritz will then show you how to define the contours of the sculpture and create volume.

This lesson belongs to the course Marble Sculpting. In this 14-week course, instructor Moritz Moser will guide you through the art of creating intricate marble sculptures. You’ll begin by learning about the tools and materials necessary for working with marble, including everything from traditional hand tools to modern pneumatic hammers and angle grinders. Moritz will demonstrate how to set up your workspace and take precise measurements from your reference material. As you progress through the course, you’ll discover the technique of reductive sculpting, learning how to carefully shape and refine the marble to achieve the desired form. Under Moritz’s guidance, you’ll create a bust and a hand, mastering the skills needed to create your own refined marble sculptures. By the end of this course, you’ll have gained the knowledge and confidence to embark on your own marble sculpting projects.

Throughout this course, you’ll have access to the NMA community for feedback and critiques to improve your work as you progress.
