In week two, you will learn how an initial idea can be developed into a working plan for a painting. Steve Huston demonstrates how quick thumbnails and sketchbook concepts help clarify composition and mood before moving into the studio. You will then see Steve direct a live photo shoot with a figure model, discussing how pose, framing, and lighting can be shaped to support an artistic vision. The session concludes by returning to the sketchbook, where the new reference material is used to push concepts further and refine the foundation for a larger work.

Throughout this course, you’ll have access to the NMA community for feedback and critiques to improve your work as you progress.
