In week four, Steve Huston demonstrates how to translate tonal design into oil painting through a series of black and white figure studies. He shows how value structure alone can carry the strength of a painting, focusing on the separation of light and shadow, the use of gradations, and the control of edges. These paintings highlight how clarity in value can create a convincing and expressive figure without the use of color.
