The journey has to start somewhere

Hi, I’m Roy Sowers.  I have been a tattoo artist for the past 12 years. From a starving artist, living off of Ramen and canned vegetables, I somehow managed to make a career.

As I progress in my field I decided to move solely into representational work and I hit a wall. My application methods improved tremendously but I realized that I could only follow a reference. I didn’t have the ability to compose my ideas. I was stuck in a loop that most tattoo artists find themselves in. We are tattooist not artists. It hurt 😞  now im 28 years old and have no fundamental training in art.

But that will come to an end now.  I will upload some of my work to show where I’m at now.

I look forward to taking some courses.

Its a great article. Eric will make a great tattooist. Tattooing is definitely a craft, like any other,that is very hard to grasp at first.
