Painting the Eyes and the Orbital Structure

In this lesson world-renowned painter Steve Huston analyzes and explains the three-dimensional structures of the eye and approaches to rendering those structures in painting using an example from John Singer Sargent. Wonderful as always with Steve Huston’s precise and revealing analysis.  I can’t help noticing how his image was very unlike the Sargent he showed at the beginning.  Was the source actually different from the one shown, or does he simply depart from the original in order to show the structures he is imagining?  For example the ‘crease’ on the eyelid which he paints (which is really evocative) doesn’t appear to be there in the original painting; the eyelid is a different shape; and so on…
