In this lesson, instructor Ben Fenske begins his first session of painting an interior scene. You will watch him develop the composition for the scene, using two-point perspective. Then, you will learn how to quickly block in the first layer of colors on your painting, to set it up for the following session.

This lesson belongs to the course Painting Interiors in Oil. In this 5-week course, you will follow Ben Fenske through his process of painting interiors. He will first introduce you to the key concepts of interior painting. Then, you will watch multiple demonstrations, where he shows you his use of suggestive brushstrokes, delightful colors, and step-by-step approach to painting indoors with natural light. After this course, you will gain a greater understanding of light and color relationships, as well as being able to achieve atmospheric perspective in your paintings.

Throughout this course, you’ll have access to the NMA community for feedback and critiques to improve your work as you progress.
