In this lesson, instructor Ben Fenske spends a second session finishing up his interior painting. You will learn how to make adjustments on value and color after coming back to the painting with fresh eye. Ben will also teach you his technique on creating atmospheric perspective for an interior scene. This will add realism and harmony to your finished artwork.

This lesson belongs to the course Painting Interiors in Oil. In this 5-week course, you will follow Ben Fenske through his process of painting interiors. He will first introduce you to the key concepts of interior painting. Then, you will watch multiple demonstrations, where he shows you his use of suggestive brushstrokes, delightful colors, and step-by-step approach to painting indoors with natural light. After this course, you will gain a greater understanding of light and color relationships, as well as being able to achieve atmospheric perspective in your paintings.

Throughout this course, you’ll have access to the NMA community for feedback and critiques to improve your work as you progress.

What does Ben do with the mirror?   Reflect the painting or what he is looking at.  When I studied in Florence they did use glass painted black on one side to reflect the still life.  Thank you

    Hi Darlene

Yes, its just like using the flip canvas command on a computer. It allows you to see the scene or painting with fresh eyes. From what I understand, the reason the glass is black, is to do the same thing, it allows you to see the values with fresh eyes.
