I’m kicking this one off with a study after Fragonard. My goal is simply to be more consistent with no restrictions. Heres #1

April 17, 2020 at 11:36 pm #476279Awesome!
Beautiful study here. It’s not clear enough to me whether she is sitting or standing. I’m assuming sitting but if that’s true give us more evidence– specifically show us the knees coming forward. Also take a picture of your work like you did on your phone then flip it horizontally. You’ll see things you will want to fix. Be careful with that dark outline. Sometimes it can flatten out the form.
April 18, 2020 at 11:10 am #477364Thanks Joshua, hard lines are a weakness I’m trying to train out. I think my values aren’t exact enough yet, so I’m making the edge more obvious with a line.
But I think the is standing with her back against the corner of a wall

April 18, 2020 at 5:45 pm #477922Ah I guess she was standing after all. Okay then advice: proportions! Don’t get lost in the drapery: think do the figure underneath!

April 18, 2020 at 9:46 pm #478359Hi Daniel, great drawings! Practicing constraint and finesse with line work is a challenge, but keep at it, you’re doing well!
April 18, 2020 at 10:07 pm #478380Thank you Josseline
April 19, 2020 at 4:57 pm #480139Day number 3 is a copy of del Sarto’s Bust of Homer, which I am feeling better about. There are some placement and anatomical issues though. The bottom lid and bag should be jetting backwards.
Then I have a Rubins selfportrait that was done the night before. Mostly focusing on broad strokes

April 19, 2020 at 9:02 pm #480494really cool looking sketches man 🙂 cant wait to see more
April 19, 2020 at 9:33 pm #480537That del sarto is excellent. Try to control your values like you did in that one —every time—for the rest of your life.
April 19, 2020 at 9:34 pm #480538Also polychromos pencils are the ferraris. They make value control too easy. Use something softer to develop a lighter hand like pitt pastel or conte.

April 20, 2020 at 10:01 pm #483202LMFAO
I will try!
In responce to “use something softer”
NOOOO! You cant make ME!
I’m having flashbacks to figure drawing class lol
I actually used a 4b wolfcarbon last night.
The darkest darks are satisfying but it seems like everything else has to be done with a shammy or an eraser.
April 20, 2020 at 10:03 pm #483203Thank you Lucas, in many ways I’m just getting started
April 21, 2020 at 10:21 pm #484854Day 5. Dont bother critiquing or commenting, it was a bad day. But i drew nonetheless
