In week one, Sheldon will teach you the fundamentals of gesture drawing, an aspect of figure drawing that tells stories and gives the body rhythm. Sheldon will demonstrate the weight, balance, and proportion of standing figures.
In week two, Sheldon will teach you gesture drawing of sitting, kneeling, and reclining figures. You will learn how to apply the concepts of weight, balance, and proportions to these complicated poses.
In week three, Sheldon will demonstrate how to construct divisions of the figure, including the head, neck, and torso. You will learn the techniques for layering construction lines to give the figure volume.
In week four, Sheldon will teach you how to construct the limbs. You will learn the core principles of drawing the limbs, hands, and feet.
In this course, Sheldon will introduce you to two important aspects of figure drawing; gesture and construction. You will be practicing the concepts of weight, balance, and proportions on standing, sitting, kneeling, and reclining poses. After this course, you will have a fundamental understanding of figure drawing and be ready to explore more complex methods to draw the figure.
This course is recommended for all levels. If you are just starting out, this will give you a solid foundation to begin your artistic career. If you have been painting and drawing for a number of years, this course is an excellent refresher on how to sketch and draw the figure.
A material PDF list is linked in each lesson under the description. Please check the file to see what you need to prepare. Most of the supplies are required for this class; the only optional one is the fountain pen.
All New Masters Academy courses are designed to be done traditionally or digitally. Software changes constantly, but the fundamentals stay the same. It will be up to you to translate the information that you are learning to your software of choice. We recommend avoiding layer, undo, automatic line straightening, or other shortcuts for this course.
This course includes downloadable assignment PDFs, that help you practice the materials taught by instructor Sheldon Borenstein. Keeping up with these assignments will maximize your learning outcomes.
