In this new series, figure drawing instructor, Karl Gnass, will show you how to draw an entire figure through his five crucial stages: Gesture, Formulation, Anatomy, Light and Tone, and Aesthetics. In this lesson, Karl will show you “how to tell a story” through gesture. He will then describe how to establish the feeling of the pose as well as showing you how to draw through and around the forms.

Thanks for the video. First thought was: Because from other gesture methodes I am used more C,S and i curves, I thought that looks like an extended stickfigure. But I think with that type of gesture and the 8 heads of the body you get all on the paper very quick. My questions are:

    • How do you get so expressive lines? What warm up should I make? I am drawing digital on wacom tablet or ipad tablet.
    • How do you get the proportion of the torso right? do make some kind of meassurement or triangulation?

    Thank you 🙂

    Best regards, George from Austria.
