Facial Cast Studies Russian Course

Hi all,

Looking for some feeback on these drawings before I jump into the more involved lessons in Iliya’s course (looking forward to the drapery). I feel like I’ve made decent progress in at least my understanding (if not application) so far.

The drawings are in graphite and on a4 paper so about a5 each. The paper does not seem to hold the hatch marks at all well, which is something I’d like to look at more closely in the future. I’ve tried to avoid the urge to smudge everything out, so I stuck to the drawing time in the videos to press urgency (about 80 minutes each).

I thought the drawings looked more volumetric/refined before I photographed them and am now somewhat deflated. Any feedback? Am I making any mistakes in edges between cast and core? Is the core emphasised enough? I’m hoping with the anatomy in later lessons I’ll start to pick up more of the subtle shifts of plane in the half tones.
