I thought I would post some recently completed stuff from the past few months.

I’ve got to comment Lewis how much I enjoy these portraits – particularly the brushwork on the pieces from NMA references (perhaps because I’ve drawn them myself and am familiar with the models). The strokes create this shimmering effect that I find so appealing. How you simultaneously get the modelling, values, colour and brushstroke all working together, on such a small scale, is beyond me!

I hope you’ll post more often and perhaps share something of what/how you’re learning.

Thank you Jac! The paintings from nma references are all done in soft pastel. I have a decent, but not exhaustive, set of colours so I kind of had to use a broken colour approach with them (although I think the medium lends itself well to that technique anyway).

Your work is very beautiful. The pieces really draw the viewer in by telling a story, and they are so much more than just a realistic representation. I am in awe of your use of pastels!
