    day oo1

    day oo1 .

i will create a figurative drawing every day; spending at least 1-2hours on the subject (this includes observation and taking notes)

to improve making well thought out marks for correct proportions

to develop patience and a better understanding of the human figure

to lay in the ground work to mastering my talent

    day oo2 day oo2 .

stepping back from time to time helped with making correct adjustments

drawing up close (muscles tight) led to more mistakes

remind myself; have faith in the landmarks I’ve already placed and not to stray too far from them

wanted to try and take this sketch a step further (compared to my other ones)

using the head for most of the base measurements helped me build an accurate and solid foundation of the figure

spending at least 1hour daily doing gesture drawings has contributed greatly to my figurative sketches (highly recommended)

    newsprint 18x24in. w/ pierre noire b_1710

skipped on doing a lot of the pre-measurements (satisfied with my overall proportions)

i feel that I’m still moving too fast and not spending enough time questioning the marks that I’m making

was having trouble with the head of the figure, so I made a reference note of it on the top right (which helped)

i wasn’t pleased at first with my drawing, but after stepping away for sometime and returning, it gave me a new prospective

note to self: don’t go too dark too fast…

i took my time on this one (measuring and building the foundation)

could have made the weight that she’s putting on her right shoulder a little more dramatic (maybe changing the angle of the shoulder and dropping the neck some)

also, decided to break down the structure of the face a bit more than usual (i like this idea, going to start doing it more often)

this is actually my fourth attempt today at drawing this subject, in this specific pose (wasn’t satisfied with the other sketches)

i decided to change my medium and use graphite this time around

this helped substantially, giving me a new perspective and a fresh start on a piece i had repeatedly sketched before

don’t have much to say about this sketch today..

did some warming up before hand, which took about 1-2hours

i like how the sketch came out overall (minus the jagged/nonsense marks on the hair)

Hey! Just wanted to give your challenge a peep and say thank you for the kind words. Really digging the way you lay down planes/shadow. I’ll have to keep an eye on this as I’d love to see where it ends up at 100 days.

    Cheers,

    James

i see now that there’s a couple of proportions slightly off

this always comes into light after taking a photo of my drawings (which helps)

before coming to this step, I feel that I need to build more structure in the body, so that I can better understand the different changes of planes
