Day 91: still messing around with the Wacom, not here, these gestures are 1-5 min, did a bit of Steve’s course. I’m going to be trying to be more regimented in my drawing time, use it more effectively. Hard stuff. That’s what I need to do, what’s hard!! Find a direction and focus on that for the day. I need to put perspective into practice, more than just cubes. I’ll try and limit the gestures tomorrow, Or go about it a different way, find different kinds of reference. Spend more time!! On new things. Anatomy, more structure, applied perspective, figuring out simple light. I just get in the flow with these quick drawings. I’m avoiding what’s hard. I gotta get the heck outta the comfort zone, grow. Have I been stagnant? Have I been applying new knowledge?

day 92: ok so tomorrow I Will do faces or master studies. or something different. im having a hard time finding a direction to move in. anatomy? faces? perspective?? I really need to apply myself to a course, that’ll certainly help. im slowly going though Steves anatomy course, but I need to be studying more. todays figures were of course different than yesterday, different refs, more time, different focus, digital. I probably butchered some anatomy but I tried. same goes for the shading……

    Matthias,

That’s good that you’re doing a lot of self-observation. I think that’s the biggest benefit of the 100-day challenge. You really get to know yourself better. Good luck on deciding on what specifically to focus on for the next few weeks or so!

@raven, thanks for your comment, I certainly agree, this challenge makes you look at yourself and your work through a whole new lens. I know my progress and motivation have improved astronomically!! also its so cool to see others progression and way of going about the challenge like yourself. super cool!  ill certainly try and find that focus, take on new challenges, and keep moving forward!

day 93: struggled getting going, but I did some master studies!! JC Leyendecker, one of my favs, and Bridgman. solid stuff. that guy is definitely lacking a lot in expression/emotion, not the best showing ha.

Day 95: all master studies, not many though unfortunately. absolutely astounding draftsmen, some dean Cornwell, frank frazetta, fetchin, and Norman Rockwell! Wow what an excellent variety!! Wish I did more, I had every intention to return to drawing tonight, but somehow the time just evaporated… you can see the last frazetta drawing is interrupted in an early stage, dang. Where does the time go?!? It’s increasingly more difficult to stay on track despite staying at home all the time for some reason. No good man, and I was so inspired after listening to the season 2 finale of the draftsmen podcast!!

day 97: not very happy with any of this, my excuse is being new to the workings and workflow of digital!! I think I have to loosen up on digital, work on fitting the drawing on the screen! some of these figures I really don’t like/don’t make sense, why??

day 98: the end is nigh!! wow its gone fast. hopefully I can crank out some faces for the weekend lol. the figures weren’t going too well, flat shapes long torsos!!! the bane of my existence. but I watched prokos oblique lesson and focused on getting the robot-bean idea. I think this is definitely helpful for me sqauring it out with solid boxes all the way through, could’ve done better with this though, next time, I really need to do this type of box structure stuff way more

day 💯💯💯!!! 3 for emphasis! wow Its gone by so fast. I could say much, but I’ll keep it short. I may not have 100% stuck to my specific original goal, but I’ve kept with it everyday, and continued to make new improvements. At times it is quite daunting and sometimes overwhelming seeing how far I still have to go, but I know since I started this challenge I have made great leaps in knowledge, ability, thinking, motivation, experience, and on and on! the key is to enjoy the journey, not overly fixed on destination. I certainly had a great time drawing these days, and it flew by. I certainly have improved my head/face drawing, although I still have a long way to go. I need to focus in more on structure and planes… in figures too no doubt.

btw these animal quick sketches are drawn from amazing sculptures from Thomas Kleinberger on instagram. not my best, but thought id show. trying from imagination, total cartoons but aint nothing wrong with that. I do lean that direction though so I need to try and move towards less “stylistic’.

well im probably gonna take a break from posting for awhile now, reassess, find direction. but I hope to start a sketchbook thread. a 2nd challenge? maybe, maybe not lol.

for whoever sees this, I thank you much 🙏. Any advice, critique, observations on things I need to work more focused on or issues I’ve overlooked, would be very much appreciated. I’m here to work past mistakes!! Thanks much.

these are quite crude, but hopefully I caught some of the spirit of it. ‘Twas fun.
