It’s been a very long time since I’ve tried to keep track of improvement in a sketchbook, much less post what I do in it. I felt bad about it, bad about the quality and lack of polish and the lack of improvement. But oh well.
In 2019 I started drawing from Kimon Nicolaides. I’m very interested into learning what other’s opinions are of him, though I understand that he’s not the most well regarded instructor. Personally, he’s helped me so much. With him I was able to forge some form of structure and discipline, a schedule to mold myself to. Of course I don’t keep myself to that, but while I had I was drawing more than ever after years of drawing.
I could probably crow on and on about how much I like his book, The Natural Way to Draw (and what’s difficult about it), but instead I’ll just post the monthly challenge I gave myself: Daily Compositions. I haven’t done them since last year and if I understand correctly, they’re memory drawings – you draw places you’ve been at any point in the past from memory.
It’s a bit of a climb and the hardest part, I think, is the perspective and scale. And cars. I could really use some help on that as I just can’t seem to get it to click by myself. It’s in one ear and out the other.
I’ll be posting the Dailies I’ve done here, and likely whatever else goes in the book. As it is I’m still trying to get over the ‘only good things go in the book’ mentality. Apologies for the red on toned paper. It’s pretty much all I have at the moment aside from digital or loose-leaf, but I tend to prefer traditional.
