Hi, I just wanted to ask, when it says to change the composition, does that mean we can move things around the drawing like boats people, trees?

having a hard time keeping it clean and not use too much shadowing. A lot of the time I wasn’t sure what pencils he was using even though he did mention them, but it was hard figuring out using what material at what moment. Also I realized my Brutus doesn’t look as “angry” as the original, my frowning is too soft. Would really appreciate some feedback !

    Hi !

Loved the thumbnail exercises. I liked the fact that it pushed to not pay attention to detail and instead first get an idea of the whole picture. I think as beginners we tend to focus too much on the detail right off the bat. Really cool exercise and it nice to be working with markers. What’s funny is that some times I was drawing thumbnails of the thumbnails on a smaller post it :::::::))))))))

Now the actual drawing, it TOUGH ! I suck with charcoal, conté have no idea about the difference between them and how to use them. I ended up smearing the whole thing. Also drapery and clothing is so hard to draw ! I do wish sometimes the lesson contained more instructions, like literally ‘take a 2B, do this.’ There were times I felt a bit lost and guessing what I had to do. I wish it’d been a bit clearer. Anyway, really enjoyed that and off to the next lesson.

Week 1 Assignment 4 ! 2H and 4H graphite pencil. Did try to sketch some background/foreground elements in these. I think my stuff is really messy and I can’t seem to be able to get nice and clean contour lines. To be honest I don’t like erasing though I don’t know why. I like to leave construction lines, maybe because I was only drawing with ink prior to starting NMA. Back to practice and see you in the next lesson…
