Thank you both Jan and Daniel!
DAY 35
Started a little study from Bouguereau today. A lot of people who are into realism in representational art these days are absolutely mad for Bouguereau. I would say I appreciate his work more than I like it. He was a consummate master, but with my 21st century sensibilities, I can’t help but find the sentimentality of a lot of his work a bit syrupy. But that’s a statement on my taste rather than a judgement on his work. The things i really love in his paintings are his compression of values and his idealised flesh tones. So that’s what I’ll be concentrating on here. This is in Procreate, but I thought I would still try working with a grisaille as if I was using traditional media.

Thank you, Jen. What a kind comment 😊
DAY 24 & 25
Still pluggin away at this thing. I’ve been deepening some of the shadows on the figure and lightening the background and I think the two are beginning to marry a bit better. Will need to revisit every area of the figure and make sure the the tonal heirarchy is working as I continue developing the environment. Slow progress, and a little tedious, but I’m determined to do the ebst job I can with this one.
The video that’s been uploaded for week three is the video from week 2. Thought I was having the most intense deja vu of my life at first.
