Damn, ten days passed much too quickly. Only just managed to obtain some fountain pen nibs today.

it would also be encouraging to have some response from the site’s management, in all honesty it feels like a bit of a ghost town at the moment 🙁
June 11, 2018 at 10:20 pm in reply to: Composition for Visual Artists | Week 1: Introduction to Composition #70658Yea, ditto – in fact, I have some potential sketchbook/artwork ideas for just that.
I’ve not gotten much further than that yet, 2 hours into the 20 h, and only have 8 days or so left on here :-(. One concern is it seems to be moving a bit slowly, although I get that the time spent looking at and clarifying an annotating everything is in itself stimulating and productive. Just hoping it moves deeper and quicker into the application and wondering if I should focus more on something else in this tiny little window of NMA free-trial opportunity…
I’m torn between the importance of composition and the potential of the sketchbook-as-laboratory that I’m getting out of Steve Huston’s new series.

Some consider it cheating, they’re wrong for most practical intents and purposes. There are obvious drawbacks and challenges to working from photographs, but as long as you are interpreting rather than merely copying photographs are just another tool/resource in your bag of magic tricks.
errr, can’t find an edit button for this post…
I like the poetry of it very much. I think the previous commenters have said more and better than I might. The background instantly reminded me of Gerhard Richter’s candle paintings. Are you familiar with them?
If I may, I seemed to see a consistent hardness of edges, especially on the couple. Is that intentional?
and what are your intentions with the background?Very quick and rough, hopefully not too crude. Definitely, want to get hold of a fountain pen, that looks fun and so dynamic.
