My attempt at greyscale excercise – probably did not use enough paint – to scared of loosing control!

Will have to force myself to load up brush

Retired at lockdown (retired aerospace stress engineer) so now have time to learn to paint – I hide in shed to avoid house job list.

Colour going to be a challenge.

That’s a fabulous take on this subject. It seems like you already know how to paint, but I’m sure you’ll be even more dangerous with color!

Do you paint from with a model usually or do you paint from pictures of the model?

I used prussian blue and flake white hue for this. It’s 8×10″.

Absolutely love this class…I keep watching it over and over so much to garner from this. Finally, worked on three small studies…totally got sucked into the detail then fussed and fudged around…each attempt however was better than the last…putting the time in is the only way. Thanks NMA and Joseph Todorovitch…awesome class!

half hour sketch that went longer and obviously I couldn't resist adding color. A shot tho which is a step in the right direction at least!

I painted this from the ref photo. I am a beginner in oil painting and

hence have very little experience of portraiture from life. I suspect using a

model is much more difficult. Just have to get the wife (or my son) to sit still for

a few hours – don’t think that will happen soon. If I could get hold of decent

quality plaster cast at reasonable cost (as used for cast drawing) that would be a great help.

JT is a great artist and an amazing instructor. What he talks about is vital stuff that is essential to become a painter.

Quick question: Are the references that he said that he uploaded for the assignment for this course the same ones that he used for the demos? If not, where can I find them? Thanks.

What’s the best thing to learn. Should I follow along with Joseph or watch all demo then do the assignment?
