In this lesson, you will study how to create a comic scene from start to finish. Instructor Ryan Benjamin will teach you to analyze the script before sketching out rough studies of different panels. You will learn about spacing and framing, which are crucial for compositional design. Ryan will take his time to block in, add details, and hatch in tones to complete the scene.

This lesson belongs to the course Penciling and Inking for Comics. In this 5-week course, Ryan Benjamin will provide an informative guide on drawing comics. To begin, you will learn the drawing and inking materials needed for the course. Ryan will teach you the basics of cross-hatching. Then, you will explore the importance of primitives in constructing complex shapes. Ryan will show you how to apply the fundamental lighting principles to render comic characters. You will watch him set up a comic scene from a script. Lastly, you will study the different inking techniques used in comics. After this course, you will be able to create comics with speed and confidence.

Throughout this course, you’ll have access to the NMA community for feedback and critiques to improve your work as you progress.
