Hello I’m Gary from Canada.

I was a member of NMA when it was in it’s early beginnings and I am delighted to once again sign up for another ‘tour of duty’ as it were.

For over 60 years I have made a living from my art (well on and off) and my medium of preference was Soft Pastels. Now I am turning to Oils. Both are so much more anaolog than Acrylics. More subtle, easier to render, and have soft edges as their default.  This year I moved to St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada and am taking a break to explore oils, my skills, what is important to me in art and generally slow down and do fewer things better.

I have exhibited in Canada, New York City, Paris and lately to my complete thrill, a lot around China as their guest. It has become my main market.

Welcome Gary – what an interesting background you have! I looked through your gallery and particularly enjoyed your winter landscape in acrylics. Your portraits have realm warmth and vivacity about them too, you can tell they’re from life and not references.

I’m keen to explore pastel landscapes one day, there are sadly very few pastel courses on NMA.

Do check out the open critique forum, I’m sure there are beginners who would benefit from your experience!
