Day 48. Some refinement.

Day 49. Some minor adjustments. I’m calling this one done. I’m happy with the outcome so far. I didn’t fight most of the image. I had trouble with the nose. That’s a complex structure from an unusual view point.

Nice work here. Are you sampling colors directly from the reference images?

Thanks Joshua, I start by picking a colour and then painting a swatch over the image, adjust, and repeat until I’m happy. That’s how I get the flat colours in the first iteration. Then I’m visually comparing as I paint in the rest of the image. It’s more about what feels right. This image is much more yellow than the source, but it still feels right. I’m doing this on an iPad, so I split the screen, photo on the left Procreate. That gives me a “sight size” approach.

Day 51. This one is hard in a different way. Lots of subtle shifts in HSV.

Day 54. I’m trying to push the darks more. Shift that right hand plane back.

Day 55. I’ve added in the dress. Now the bounce light on the chin makes more sense even if I’ve blown it out.

Day 56. Working on the second half of the dress. Getting the strap to transition into the shadow without having too much contrast proved difficult.

Day 57. I do not like the hair I’ve done here. I will try again once I have time to think about my approach.

Day 58. I added more highlights and changed the shape of the hair. Now it looks like les s of a wig.
