Day 25. I think I’m done on this one. The colours on the forehead got a little muddy. Not quite sure why. I do like the blending overall. It proves some good form to the face. The eyes are not quite right but the best so far.

Hi Dean,

I really like how you’re working this portrait digitally. The brush work is interesting and I would try to leave more of it visible, without necessarily blending everything together. I also think the hair and facial hair are maybe a little overstated. I’m including a draw-over with some things to think about when it comes to the big tonal relationships and head and face structure.

Day 29 I realized that I was not grouping my values and I was avoiding darks again. I’ve tried pushing that around a little more. I feel like I’ve done a better job of showing the form on the neck and right cheek.

Day 30 I notice right now that the left eye is too small. It needs to get much closer to the nose.

Day 31. Repainted the eye.

Day 32. Refining shapes and working on the left eye. The cast shadow really helps sell the form. I also made the mouth a little larger and softened some forms on the right cheek.

Day 32.  I didn’t have a lot of time today. Only enough to finish the other eye. Now I see that the forehead is much too long and the hand is too high. Also I’m missing lashes and eyebrows 😉
