I enrolled mid April and am trying to learn faces and figure this year. Working around job and family.

So far I’ve watched and done assignments for the following:

Steve Huston’s beginner head drawing lessons 1-7

(I’ll have to post pics from the other lessons in another post my phone is giving me trouble.)

Steve Huston’s advanced head drawing lessons 1-5

Currently sampling the Rilley Method videos with Mark W, and smaller bite size videos like rendering with hatching.

    Lesson 3: Eyes page 2

Favorite eyes are top right and bottom left near my thumb.

    Lesson 4: The Nose

    Favorite nose is bottom right

    Lesson 5: The Mouth

this was the hardest concept for me. Still working on it but most of them look like clown lips especially hard in profile. I need to stop with the mechanical pencil and try the shaved edges.

The ones I drew during the assignment and follow along Steve’s turn are way better than the ones I drew later in the advanced head drawing so I may need to go back to this lesson I guess I don’t have the concepts memorized.

    Lesson 6: The Ears

drawing ears make me lazy (wiggly lines?) and also let me procrastinate the rest of the face while I render them because I get obsessed with shading their curled edges and spirals… then they end up rendered too early and I find out later when I finally start the face I need to place them slightly lower and further back most of the time.

I felt like I “got” the inner ear’s overlapping the outer edge concep for the first time in #5

But all I see is flat and lazy sketch #6 taking up most of the page!!
