    DAY 30

Second piece for Iliya’s figure painting class finished. I could definitely take it further, but I’ve sadly run out of time. The technique is completely wrong, vis a vis the brief for the assignment, but Procreate doesn’t have the tools to do it properly, so there you go.

    DAY 35

Started a little study from Bouguereau today. A lot of people who are into realism in representational art these days are absolutely mad for Bouguereau. I would say I appreciate his work more than I like it. He was a consummate master, but with my 21st century sensibilities, I can’t help but find the sentimentality of a lot of his work a bit syrupy. But that’s a statement on my taste rather than a judgement on his work. The things i really love in his paintings are his compression of values and his idealised flesh tones. So that’s what I’ll be concentrating on here. This is in Procreate, but I thought  I would still try working with a grisaille as if I was using traditional media.

    DAY 38

I’m pretty knackered from traveling today, so a somewhat cursory effort in afraid. A five and a ten minute pose from daily life drawing.

Really nice work Lewis! I like your charcoal quick sketches and really find your Procreate work excellent. I’m trying to learn that program. Your posts will help a lot!
